Quality has always been a major part of our culture at Greno Industries. We are proud of the quality of our products, processes, and customer service. Our longtime ISO9001 certification reflects our success in this area. However, rather than resting on our laurels, we decided to take on the challenge of making our Quality Management System even better. Pursuing the AS9100D certification was an opportunity for us to do just that.
Greno was amongst the first companies to be certified to the AS9100D certificate in the U.S., and was the first company certified by DQS to the AS9100D revision.
For more than a year, we evaluated every aspect of our business, from production to payables. We examined ways we could improve quality, assess and mitigate risk, and deliver the best possible products and services to our customers. All staff members worked hard and dedicated themselves to the certification process.

The Manufacturing Institute has announced that they will award Eileen Guarino, President and COO of Greno Industries, with the Women in Manufacturing STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) Award.
The STEP Awards honor women who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their careers and represent all levels of the manufacturing industry, from the factory-floor to the C-suite. The Manufacturing Institute will honor 100 women at this year’s awards. The Honorees’ companies are of all sizes and represent varying sectors of manufacturing.
“This year’s award recipients are the faces of exciting careers in manufacturing,” said Jennifer McNelly, president, The Manufacturing Institute. “We chose to honor these women because they each made significant achievements in manufacturing through positive impact on their company and the industry as a whole. “The STEP Awards are part of a larger STEP Ahead initiative, launched to examine and promote the role of women in the manufacturing industry that focuses on the attraction, development, advancement, and retention of high potential female talent.”
A recent study by Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute found that 80 percent of U.S. manufacturing companies report a moderate to severe shortage of qualified applicants for skilled and highly skilled production positions. STEP Ahead is designed to help improve the retention of existing female talent and highlight role models that can help raise awareness about careers for women in manufacturing. Currently, women represent 25% of all manufacturing employees but 51% of the potential workforce.
On March 26, The Manufacturing Institute will recognize Eileen and the other recipients of the STEP Awards at a reception in Washington, D.C. The STEP Awards program will highlight each Honoree’s story, including their leadership and accomplishments in manufacturing.

In mid-February, Greno Industries will be installing a new Mazak Quick Turn Nexus 550MY Lathe. This new machine tool acquisition will further enhance our large component turning capability with its 33.5” swing diameter and 120” travel.
The unit features live tooling as well as a built-in boring bar capable of boring 31.5” that can be used simultaneously with outside machining operations. This will positively impact cycle time for many parts that we routinely manufacture.
This is another step being taken by Greno to continually expand capabilities as well as maintain the latest technology equipment to support the demand for our products.

Mohonasen High School students during a presentation on the 50 year history of Greno Indutries
On Thursday March 10th, Greno Industries hosted 50 students from Mohonasen High School. The ninth grade Technology class consisted of two groups of students accompanied by the Asst. Superintendent of Mohonasen and Gerald Garing the Career Technology Counselor.
In the attached photos we are greeting the students and giving them the 50 year history of Greno with a PowerPoint presentation. Following the presentation the students toured the Greno MFG facility to see how the company operates on a daily basis. The students were separated into 2 groups which were lead by Joe Michonski, General Manger of Mfg and Mark Vecchio, Manager of Estimating. The students were very well mannered and interested in how the components were being made. They enjoyed being able to see the machines running and utilizing the live tooling as well as hearing our operators explain the process and skill needed to manufacture the parts. There was much fascination with the before and after; from raw material to finished part. We hope that we were impressive enough to help encourage some into considering a career of manufacturing.
Mohonasen High School Students
Greno has partnered with Mohonasen for school year 2010-2011 with an in house Intern/Apprentice Program. A senior is selected by a Mohonasen counselor who is interested in pursuing a career in manufacturing/engineering. The selected student will work a minimum of 10 hours per week working within the structure of his/her daily school schedule. During this period the student will have an opportunity to observe and work in each of our departments including Quality Control, Shop Floor, Production, and Warehouse Shipping & Receiving. This gives the student a clear idea of the process flow in manufacturing daily activities. After the student works a total of 105 hours he/she will become a paid apprentice. Once the student reaches the age of 18 he/she will be able to participate in hands-on training and operation of selected machining equipment in our shop. This hands-on opportunity and closeness with the daily operations of our manufacturing facility will add invaluable assets to the students training in preparation for a career in the manufacturing industry. Our first participant is Kyle who will turn 18 in a month and he will begin his hands-on training to setup, program, and operate one of our CNC machines.

In keeping up with our customer’s needs for close tolerance parts on large and small parts, Greno industries added to its arsenal of metrology tools the latest FARO portable measurement arm.
Latest advances in hardware and software have brought this technology to a level where it is now possible to measure large and small parts with amazing accuracy–within tenths of thousands. Thermal compensation and the use of graphite composites have both added to reliability of this device.
From our smallest machining center to our largest VTL, Greno now has the flexibility to take real time data at the machine in order to guarantee a precise end product. This new addition complements our fully outfitted QC department.
